Kara’s Review

Sinner’s Creed is a motorcycle club of which Dirk is a Nomad. Over a span of several years, he repeatedly runs into Saylor. They remember one another, but he trusts no one. She brings him life and light. Saylor accepts him for who he is. Hearing his assumptions of how she’ll react, what her responses will be and then he’s proven wrong…this warmed my heart. They balanced one another. She brought him calm and he could ripe her up. Their banter was perfect and their friends (Shady, Donnawayne, Jeffery, Carrie, and Rookie) are trustworthy and reliable. This novel had a great balance between angst, finding oneself, acceptance, and romance. Dirk hates conversations so witnessing his growth and the opening and pouring of his heart into all that is Saylor left me breathless. Their love is beautiful. I wished for a different ending, but in all reality…Kim gave their story the best ending. toilet seats uk The best. I laughed, cried, rolled my eyes, swooned, and my heart raced. The range of emotions experienced in the novel solidify my love for Kim’s words. Give Dirk a try and find your next MC book crush!! Rating: 4.5 stars

Caryn’s Review

Every so often a story comes along that is so intense and incredibly beautiful that it rips your soul out and gives you an “ugly cry” like never before. A story so intense and incredibly beautiful that it gives you a “book Hangover” like you’ve never experienced. A story so intense and incredibly beautiful that it will never leave you.
To say that Sinners Creed is amazing is an understatement.
Dirk & Saylor’s story is one for the ages.
Captivating, poignant, beautiful.
Dirk ~ “She knew the difference between us and out two worlds. I was the predator and she was the prey. I was the shark and she was the bait. I was the demon-possessed monster and she was the innocent naïve angel. I could almost envision the white-feathered wings trapped by the large, sharp jaws of my mouth. Shit like this didn’t happen. Nobody could be as perfect as she seemed to be and still want something to do with an imperfection like myself.”
Saylor ~ “I’m not scared of you Dirk. Even if there was something left in this life that could scare me, it wouldn’t be you. You’ve always been my savior. You may not know it, but you always show up just when I need you most. You’re like my angel. And right now, I need you.”
A love story that is all consuming
An absolute MUST read
A story deserving of an infinite number of stars

All the Right Moves

For Barrett Cassidy, playing defense for the Tampa Hawks is a dream come true. And now he may have discovered his dream woman. Harmony Evans, once the sweet, gawky teenage sister of his best friend and teammate has grown into a smart, gorgeous woman with moves he finds hard to resist. But he knows he can’t get involved with his best friend’s sister—it’s guy code.

Harmony has always gone after what she wants with single-minded determination, from her independence to her education to her career in social work. She never expected her youthful crush on Barrett to develop into something deeper. And she’s not about to let some ridiculous man rules or her brother stand in her way.

When the chemistry is this combustible, lines tend to get crossed. And when Barrett and Harmony’s secret gets out, it just might be game over…
bn-nookamazon buttongoodreads button

We get Barrett and Harmony’s story in Unexpected Rush. Barrett is one of the Cassidy brothers, a professional football player and Tucker’s twin (from a previous installment). Barrett and Harmony’s brother, Drake, have been best friends for years. So Harmony’s want and desire for Barrett is not a “new thing”. The cat and mouse game between the two of them is sweet, especially having both of their POVs and knowing how they both want the other. Barrett is adamant about his reasons, but he succumbs to an agreement of sorts. My rating is a 2.5 because the plot became predictable and I didn’t experience any over the top “feels”. There was no angst and I could anticipate what was to happen next. I loved the family gatherings and how their families mesh together so well. I also liked the “behind the scenes” to the interior design of Barrett’s house. I enjoyed the rush their interactions gave me, but I didn’t experience any overwhelmingly exciting, sad, or angsty emotions and I love to feel while reading a book. Give this a try and maybe you’ll find your next book crush. Rating: 2.5 stars

She knows what he’s like on Boston’s mean streets. Now she’s going to find out if he’s got some heart.

Lucas Donahue is not ashamed of his criminal past, but after a brief stint in prison, he’s ready to go legit and live a normal life. The problem is, no one leaves the gang without permission—even if he is one of the boss’s top men. Plus someone’s placed a hit on him. And then there’s that feisty little bartender who’s going to cause him even more trouble.

Heidi Greene knows to keep her distance from a ladies’ man like Lucas—even if she can’t keep her eyes off him. When he rescues her from an attack in the alley outside her bar, she’s forced to stay by his side for safety. But the longer she spends time with him, the greater her chances are for getting hurt in more ways than one.
bn-nookamazon buttongoodreads button

I’m going to start by stating: what a perfect title for Lucas’ book. He’s our hero, a member of a gang (Sons of Steel Row) who fights for what he wants. We get his backstory from the start, which I truly appreciate. We understand other’s roles in his life and the importance he places on these relationships. Then we meet Heidi, our heroine. She’s tough, independent, a fighter, and she’s more than just talk. We also get Heidi’s background story upon meeting her. This helped me to connect with the leading characters and understand their perspective. This is a lifestyle I’ve never read about. Gang life. It was intriguing, but I had to remind myself several times I wasn’t reading about a motorcycle club (even though their are no motorcycles). There’s guns and liquor and men fighting over positions. Jen gives us an experience of high tension, of the sexual and mysterious natures. There’s shock and awe, and also joy and tears. I have hopes of who the next installment will be about…and I can’t wait to find out! I would’ve read Dare to Run in one sitting, but work. I dare you to read this book in one sitting. You can. And I dare you to find your next book crush! Rating: 4 stars

bn-nookamazon buttongoodreads button

In The Master we get Cole and Sasha’s story. Tara always pulls me in to her character’s stories. We got some of Sasha’s back story in previous installments and how she was hurt and thus lost trust in men and being in a D/s relationship. In their journey, we see how she never really lost her strength, she just needed to find it again. Parts of Cole’s history and effects from previous relationships, I’d wished we would’ve gotten sooner than nearly the end of the novel. Another pattern with Tara’s books that I hope each time I open one of her books will change is that the expected happens and then all is good at the end. I want to see more of the good after the devastation. Or hell, leave us hanging. I love a good book hangover and cliffy! This is all just my opinion. Tara never leaves me disappointed, that’s for sure! Grab this up and see if Cole becomes your next book crush! Rating: 4 stars

the One for Me by Sydney Landon ~ New Release

The One for Me by Sydney Landon

Release Date February 2, 2016

Book Details

Mark DeSanto has never denied himself anything—especially in the bedroom. Rich, attractive, and successful, men envy him and women desire him. But when a sweet, guileless beauty faints at his feet, he suddenly finds himself wondering if it’s time to look for something more lasting…

Until her divorce, Crystal Webber never knew what it was like to follow her heart. Now she wants to experience all life has to offer. So when she catches a glimpse of Mark DeSanto in the halls of Danvers International, she’s instantly infatuated—and eager to join him for a walk on the wild side. Fainting at his feet wasn’t her plan, but at least it got his attention…

But for the first time, Mark wants to take things slow, which—considering the electricity between them—may take far more willpower than he’s ever had.
bn-nookamazon buttongoodreads button

There are several things about this novel that turned me off. I’m not a fan of Insta-love and I got that with this book. Mark is anti-commitment, but after his brief time with Crystal (Angel) after just meeting her-he’s turned off to all other women. He was loose in the sheets and then poof, no more. Next-he was an alpha, kinky male. This was discussed, yet this never came through “in action” while with Crystal. And finally, I wanted to see some fight on both Crystal and Mark’s part-prior to the end of the novel. Instead they (especially Mark) had the turn-your-back technique with little to no effort made. Besides all of the above, the novel was a quick, cute read. We get reacquainted with couples from previous installments along with meeting new individuals that I’m sure will be the lead characters in future installments. I enjoy Sydney’s books and hope in future installments there’s more angst, adventure and personality within the characters. I found myself predicting what was to happen and I prefer to not be able to do this while reading. Rating: 2.5 stars

Q&A with Pepper Winters

1. What would readers be surprised to find out about you?
That I’m really not that interesting J Um…not sure…let’s see. I don’t like tomatoes. That’s a random fact.

2. Tell us about your writing process. Do you start with an idea or a character? Do you know what’s going to happen from the beginning or do you figure it out as you write?
I have a vague plot line and character script but as I get to know the people I’m writing and the story arc, it normally always changes. It’s great to see characters take control and guide me in a different direction.

3. Who gave you the one piece of writing advice that sticks with you to this day?
Not particularly spoken piece of advice, but I do remember reading Laini Taylor’s work and ‘clicking’ with her beautiful writing. That was the day I found my voice.

4. Is there one thing you have to have when writing?
Yes, a glass of icy cold Coke Zero and lots of water.

5. How did you choose the names of your characters?
I let them choose. I might have place holders in for a while until it comes to me, or browse on baby websites until something clicks.

6. How has music played a role in your life and in your writing?
Not at all. I have to have complete silence to write. But I love the way some lyrics can tell the soul of my story and list those in the playlists at the back of my work.

7. When was the moment that you knew you had to be a writer?
When I was about six years old and I wrote a story in my school book that was meant to be math homework.

8. What can you tell us about your couple, that we won’t find in the book?
Oh, not sure. What sort of stuff do you want to know? I guess, you won’t find their generic everyday likes and dislikes. For example, Kill loves coffee black.

9. Do you have any favorite book boyfriends of your own?
I have too many to count. It wouldn’t be fair to list in case I miss one.

10. What are five books on your night stand/bookshelf?
Boring ones. I have The Secret, Robert Kiyosaki (Rich Dad, Poor Dad) Napoleon Hill (Think Rich) and a renovation guide to large homes.

11. What’s your favorite quote or scene from your books?
That’s like choosing a favourite child. There are many but I love the scene in the shower with Tess and Q in Monsters in the Dark.

12. If your couple’s relationship had a theme song, what would it be?
Um, again, I’m not sure. Their emotional growth encaptures so many theme songs J I kinda suck at this, I know.

13. Tell us about the cover process. Is this what you had in mind?
Yes, completely. I love an artist that can pluck the idea from your head and make it a reality.

14. If your book was being made into a movie, who would you include in your dream cast? I’m going to suck on this question too. I honestly don’t know. My characters are unique in my head, so I don’t see them as anyone else. I know if it was ever made into a movie though, whoever was cast would do a great job.

15. Where do you find inspiration for you writing? Do you use real people/places as a foundation? Yes and no. I tend to get random plot ideas while driving or in the shower. I don’t really use outside influences but let the character guide me to the next chapter etc.

16. Do you have any hobbies or activities that you enjoy outside of writing? Yes, buying real estate and travelling.

17. Would the 10 year-old version of yourself kick your butt or praise you for what you’ve accomplished in life? Praise me. I think I’ve been very lucky and happy with my life so far.

“Let’s go.” Mo cocked his head at the undergrowth. “The sooner this is over, the sooner we can blow some shit up and get home.”
I tried to hide my slight sway and the way even the darkness hurt my eyes. But of course, he saw right through it.
Mo came closer. “You’re the prez, Kill. You’re the one pulling the strings on this party. But tonight, let us be the ones in front, yeah?”
Grasshopper froze. I was well known for being on the front line. I never asked others to do what I was afraid to do myself. I shook my head, then stopped immediately.
Motherfucker, that hurts.
Swallowing my groan, my shoulders slumped. “Normally, I’d take a swing at you for sprouting such bullshit. But . . . you might be right.”
Honesty was a weakness, but it was also a strength. My men trusted me because I wasn’t stupid. If they had a better idea, I listened. If they had reasons to avoid something, I paid attention.
And this was one of those times.
Grasshopper’s boots crunched a twig as he shifted. “You’re still the boss. We aren’t protecting you or doing shit on your behalf; you’re just doing us a favor by not getting in the way.”
As if anyone believes that shit.
“We’ll get her back, dude. And we’ll destroy those motherfuckers.” Grasshopper slapped a hand on my shoulder.
I winced as my headache flared, but I appreciated the gesture. Fuck, I appreciated everything he’d done—even if I was livid.
I owed him.
If it hadn’t have been for Hopper, I might’ve bled out or turned into a damn zucchini before anyone noticed. He’d been the one to pop around when he couldn’t get me on the phone. He was the one who found me passed out.
Mo pulled his gun free and clicked off the safety. “Let’s go.” Like an evil spirit, he dissolved into the tree line.
Grasshopper took off after him, leaving me to bring up the rear—like a rookie or some idiotic prospect.
The trees were watchdogs.
The shadows were death’s pockets to hide in.
We remained silent as we merged with the darkness, slinking stealthily through leaves and cobwebs.
Every step throbbed my head.
Every duck to avoid branches sent queasiness splashing through my skull.
Cleo was nearby and we were about to rescue her.
That was all the incentive I needed to do my fucking job as a Pure Corruption president and lover to my woman.
I’m stronger than a damn concussion.
However, the closer we got to the large wooden fence barricading Dagger Rose, the more I feared I might not be a help but a hindrance. Mo was right to put me at the back. My muscles trembled and the cold sweat of illness never let up. I could barely stomach the pain of walking, let alone running into battle and firing a loud gun.
Moving past the glade where I’d brought Cleo, my fists tightened as I recalled her peering through the hole in the fence and witnessing her old home.
It hurt like hell that she couldn’t remember everything we’d shared, but at the same time, I was glad. Glad that she couldn’t recall the night we both lost everything.
My stomach convulsed as a rancid thought crusted my mind.
She’ll know.
She’ll remember what I did.
My father would’ve had ample time to tell her what happened. To show her the false statement and guild lies into truths.
Everything he said would reek of dishonesty—but one fact remained.
One undisputed fact that would make her hate me for eternity.
What I did was unforgivable.
I was the one who pulled the trigger.
I was the one to slaughter the two people she cared for most in this world.
How can she ever forgive me once she knows?

Sinister and captivating, Konstantin introduces her to many fascinating perversions, and his care and attention wins her complete devotion. Will Varushka’s Master give chase to reclaim her, or will he allow her father to marry her off to a more respectable man?
ibooksbn-nookamazon buttonkobogoodreads button

I’ve been living in the Russian-themed book world for over a month now. Therefore, I could not have picked a more fitting time to enjoy Konstantin and Varushka’s story. Konstantin and Varushka are from Russia. Konstantin left for America at a young age with his parents whereas Varushka has lived in Russia her entire life. They’ve been arranged for marriage by their relatives and wondering if Varushka will fit-in and accept Konstantin’s lifestyle is the major question. Parts of their story seemed choppy and rushed. Transitions were abrupt and I wanted to see Varushka fight. To stand up for herself with her family. Konstantin is all alpha and I got a sense of his aura but could not picture him in my mind. I felt more of a connection with Varushka and where her head was at with things. Sparrow writes amazing secondary characters that leave you with a longing to befriend these individuals. I wanted more with Konstantin and Varushka, but this is because I didn’t want to leave their world. Their Russian pet names and curse words helped me feel more connected to them and their relationship. I was sad to say goodbye but overall loved their story and will be encouraging others to read it. Give this a try and find your next Russian book crush! Rating: 4.5 stars

One girl’s heart gets rocked to the core in the first novel in this sexy New Adult series.

Twenty-one-year-old front girl Emmylou knows that getting her band noticed in the ‘90s indie rock scene will be no easy task. She definitely knows better than to break the number one rule of the band: Don’t sleep with your bandmates! But after she ends up having the best sex of her life with her guitarist, Travis, she finds following that rule is a lot harder than it sounds.

When the band gets the gig of their dreams, making it big seems just within reach. But Emmy’s inability to keep her hands off Travis threatens everything they’ve worked for. Can Emmy find a way to break the rules and not blow the chance of a lifetime?

Kara’s Review

Let me start by saying I was sucked in by the first page. But my mind was not ready for it to be thrown into my face so quickly. This being said, 75% of the novel dragged for me and I found myself predicting what was going to happen next. Once I hit the last chapter, I didn’t want Emmy’s story to end. My thoughts in regards to the hangups in my head: 1) Emmy and Travis are best friends. If this is so, then why can she not openly share with him her fears. What she wants. Her feelings and thoughts regarding where her mind is. 2) Then comes the pushing away she does with Travis. She does so to “protect” the band, their friendship. Emmy has a devil on her shoulder blunting stating her worries and fears, which she listens to. Repeatedly. But when Travis is in her presence all she thinks about is him, he consumes all of her thoughts. 3) The problem (imo) is that Emmy has a single focus, their band. It all comes back to the band for her, she fights for them and their future. But what she fails to recognize is that she’s not fighting for herself and her personal future. I get pissed with her about as much Travis does. I wanted to slap her numerous times. I have to remind myself how young Emmy and Travis are and I understand the back and forth, doubting ourselves when we want something is normal in our early twenties. So in realistic terms-Mercy hit it dead on. But this being the meat and bones of the novel did not settle with me. I wanted more fight, more communication and their being best friends, I thought there’d be more of this. But instead I see Travis doing all the chasing and Emmy the pushing. And lots of avoiding and running. I like this band, and the music they make together, when they get in their zone-I can hear it and it’s beautiful. I finished this novel content overall, excited for the next in the Hub City series, but wanting more substance in terms of their relationship. As Mercy’s debut novel, you get a standing o from me. Give this a try and find your next rockstar book crush!! Rating: 3.5 stars

Karen’s Review

This novel started out with a rock style bang! “Don’t f*ck anyone in the band”. I was in and gripping the edges of the book with this opening. I couldn’t wait to see where Travis and Emmy’s story was going. Rock star romance with a bad ass female lead singer/guitarist and set in the 90’s – ah, the day memories this brought back. These characters had chemistry, friendship and a great band making their way through college and playing in the local bars trying to make their way in the music scene.
The book was heading in the right direction and then Emmy’s actions and behavior became so exhausting. Emmy had some real issues with indecision and this character flaw made me lose interest in her. Travis was an all-around package. Rocker, guitarist, nice guy and smart – he had his act together and at time it seemed for me that his flaw was that he fell for his bandmate. When Emmy and Travis were together it was great but as soon as she started second guessing and going back and forth I wanted to punch her.
I stuck through the rough patches and made it through to see the story wrap up nicely and was beautifully heart-warming. It was almost more than Emmy deserved but she came around and the story wrapped up nicely.
This author did a great job giving insight into a college band working hard to make it in the industry and the story felt solidly placed in the 90’s. There were many funny and endearing moments and it was worth the read to get to know some new characters. Give this a try and find you next rocker Book Crush!! 3.5 Stars

the Baller by Vi Keeland ~ Reviews

the Baller by Vi Keeland

The first time I met Brody Easton was in the men’s locker room.
It was my first interview as a professional sportscaster.
The famed quarterback decided to bare all.
And by all, I don’t mean he told me any of his secrets.
No. The arrogant ass decided to drop his towel, just as I asked the first question. On camera.
The Super Bowl MVP quickly adopted a new hobby—screwing with me.
When I pushed back, he shifted from wanting to screw with me, to wanting to screw me.
But I don’t date players.
And it’s not because I’m one of the few women working in the world of professional football.
I’d date an athlete.
It’s the other kind of player I don’t date.
You know the type. Good looking, strong, cocky, always looking to get laid.

Brody Easton was the ultimate player.
Every woman wanted to be the one to change him.
But the truth was, all he needed was a girl worth changing for.
Turned out, I was that girl.
Simple right?
Let’s face it. It never is.
There’s a story between once upon a time and happily ever after…
And this one is ours.

Kara’s Review

When I began reading this, I was skeptical as I thought to myself: this is going to be another journalist/athlete Insta-love story. Well, I should never doubt Vi’s style. I love the depth of Brody’s character we witness from his interactions with Marlene. He’s not just the arrogant athlete in front of a camera. He’s experiencing pain and grief, while protecting and caring for those he loves. The fluidity between Delilah’s and Brody’s chapter was smooth and beautiful. Vi has a way of throwing you a bone at the end of a chapter, just the right amount to tickle that angst to make you keep reading. I didn’t have to be told twice. I couldn’t put Delilah and Brody down as I kept wanting to see what was to come. The sexual innuendos and banger had me giggling. Indie-what a great friend to have in your corner. I’m so glad Delilah has her. And if I could, I’d steal her. My favorite of all things from The Baller is that Brody and Delilah both have to find the strength within themselves to let go of the past and fight for their futures. Each of their journeys are unique and powerful. We wouldn’t have experienced this without getting both of POVs throughout this novel. This book was read with teary-eyes through several scenes. I’m hopeful there will be more in a possible Baller series, as id love to see more of Delilah and Brody, and hopefully get to experience Indie’s story as well. Vi Keeland has a talent for writing a story with the perfect amount of everything you could need, want, and ask for in a story and you get all that and more with Brody Easton.
He is sex and swagger with a quick wit and charm that will have you swooning and smiling like a fool throughout.
“What kind of flowers were delivered?”
“Roses. They’re beautiful. Thank You”
“What asswipe sends a woman like you ordinary roses?”
“You mean…they’re not from you?”
“No. And the guy who sent them had his secretary send that crap and didn’t give it any thought. Probably has an account at the florist and a standard order. Guy’s a dick”
And that’s just a taste of this sexy as sin, dirty talking, towel dropping, possessive charmer that is Brody Easton. The man is irresistible I tell you!
Add the just as witty Delilah…
“Well aren’t I the lucky one?”
“You are. Have dinner with me?”
“That’s right. No”
“I don’t date players”
“You went out with that kicker from the Saints last year”
“I said I don’t date players, not I don’t date athletes”
And that ladies…is how it’s done.
Their witty banter is only a part of what makes Brody and Delilah so great together and you’ll easily be caught up in them as they get to know each other.
The Baller is a fun, sweet, just the right amount of angst, fast paced read.
Fall in love with Brody Easton and see how easily he becomes your next Book Crush ~ 4 ~ Stars

Karen’s Review

The Baller is an absolute for a fun, fast and sexy read mixed with heart-warming and endearing. Superbowl MVP, quarterback Brody Easton is a cocky, player (and we’re not talking football) with a dirty mouth and all the goods to go with it.
Delilah doesn’t seem like the plastic female sports reporters that I am used to seeing and she is funny, witty and smart. She works hard and has earned her place. She goes toe-to-toe with Brody and is able to hold her own. Their banter is fabulously smart and sexy.
Vi Keeland has put the perfect amount of everything in the Baller – it’s funny, smart, sexy, surprisingly emotional and with a touch of angst.
I loved the story being told multiple points of view which really helped me see the characters develop and get a feel for what was going on in their head. This was especially poignant when we see Brody’s visits with Marlene. This is when I truly fell for him, wise-ass an all. Not only does he melt panties, he’ll melt your heart. The scenes between Brody and Grouper were just as touching and so vivid. I honestly felt like I was sitting there watching the back and forth and couldn’t help but have a perma-smile on my face.
Give this a try and see if the Baller can be your next Book Crush – he sure is mine! 4.0 Stars.
